The Red Ranger's Isekai Adventure: Power Rangers Meets Fantasy World

Shawn Juarez Episode 75

Send us a text

A red-clad hero stands amidst explosive morphing sequences in a fantasy world that has no idea what to make of him. The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World transforms the isekai genre by brilliantly flipping its fundamental premise—instead of our hero adapting to a strange new world, the world must adapt to him and his inexplicable Super Sentai powers.

From the moment Togo arrives mid-battle against evil forces, this anime establishes itself as a loving tribute to Power Rangers/Super Sentai fans while offering something genuinely fresh in the oversaturated isekai landscape. The first episode holds nothing back, delivering iconic transformations, weapon summoning, and even a full Megazord battle that leaves native characters utterly bewildered. When Togo morphs and explosions erupt around him, his companion Yehidra can only watch in confusion—where is this non-magical spectacle coming from?

What makes the show particularly endearing is how it embraces every tokusatsu trope without apology. Togo maintains his color-coordinated appearance (red hair, red jacket, red everything), his unfailingly positive personality, and his bombastic battle style. When the adventurer's guild evaluates his abilities, they literally read like television show descriptions—he can defeat villains with a single punch that causes them to inexplicably explode. It's a Saturday morning cartoon hero dropped into a fantasy world, refusing to change while forcing everything around him to adjust instead.

While this approach creates refreshing comedy and nostalgia for fans who recognize the references, it might prove challenging for viewers unfamiliar with Power Rangers conventions. Still, the show's commitment to subverting isekai formulas while honoring tokusatsu traditions makes it stand out as a must-watch for anyone tired of generic otherworld adventures. Whether you're reliving childhood memories or discovering these tropes for the first time, The Red Ranger's interdimensional adventure offers something genuinely unique in anime storytelling.

Welcome back to Second Alation, the show where we deep dive into the latest anime and see what's worth your time. I'm Sean, your host, and today we're gonna be talking about a new setting that we're doing where we do and review the first episodes of Animes. And today we're gonna be talking about the Red Ranger becomes an adventurer in another world, this new fantasy.

Anime that just premiered on CR Road streaming site. If you're a fan of comedy, fantasy and sci-fi, this might be on your radar. So stick around as I give a little breakdown, share my thoughts and see what other anime fans are talking about. So let's get into what the show is. Right off the bat, for those who haven't seen it yet, I'm gonna give a brief synopsis of what they have on the website describing with the show.

So the Red Ranger Toga finds himself transported in another world in the middle of a fierce battle against forces of evil. Upon arriving, he quickly makes a name for himself as an adventurer and takes a job from a young man named. Yra with his eccentric powers and friends Z Personality, Togo blazes through the missions with her.

So this is produced by Kashi and Akashi and also Square Enex. Now let's get into. The next thing, first impressions. When I first heard about this anime, I didn't know what to think of it because there was a, another anime that did pull power ranger. Tropes or the premise of it, but underneath it had a different narrative.

I think it was like go Loser Ranger and anime by that name. And so I didn't really watch that one 'cause it didn't, it didn't appeal to me in the way that it should. But instead, this one really caught my eye as I first saw marketing for it and the the poster for it on Crunch Wall really diving deep into what I grew up watching, which was Power Rangers.

And for those who also were, it's also known as Super Centi. And for me it was like nostalgia right off the bat. And I couldn't have been more excited. Like the inner child in me was like, yes, something took scratch that little itch. Now I. For those who, haven't watched Power Rangers or don't know what I'm talking about, it's this anime is going to be confusing for those 'cause they might not get the references.

They might not get, I wanna say a lot of things because Power Rangers growing up was like a, it is like a action series geared for kids. It had a lot of martial arts story character development, so it was in the nineties and a lot of stuff back then pulled from that era of Power Rangers.

So there was a lot of I wanna say carbon copies, but you would say that Power Rangers are super, was cultural. Powerhouse that helped, create some of the shows that we got to experience in the nineties. And it looks like this anime did pull a lot of inspiration and maybe even nostalgia from that show.

Now an another impression I got was that this show didn't, this anime actually didn't follow the initial ec. Or is Kais is what it's known trope or essentially game plan where the character who somehow dies and he's brought to a fantasy world and he essentially just op and he has a, a female groupies along with them.

And for those who know, anime or Crunch Road and the every year there's a bunch of Issa Kais where they have that type of trope and you'll find a gem in there somewhere where that's not the main, the main anchor for the series and. You could find them on control. They're normally like one shots.

They're just cannon fodder. They just, they produce stuff out. Never going to be another season, just so they can get it out there. But yeah every season, every year, there's always gonna be some more, issa Kais that have the Trop type template. This, oddly enough, did not serve that. I think for me, and that's what worked for the anime, is that it didn't play into any of those tropes.

Instead of, the character or instead of Togi. Togo having to adopt, his new surroundings and being in this fantasy world that you know has laws are governed by magic. It is the people around him having to adopt to him, which was very unique because he didn't try to change. When he was there, he had all his power.

He was able to essentially morph, it wasn't diminished, it didn't go away. He wasn't just, stuck there and. He was, I think what also worked was that he was just a regular person. He didn't have no significant advantage. He wasn't reincarnate, he wasn't given, mana or special skill that made him excel, over anyone in this world where magic, is very evident.

He is just a normal person with convictions who you know. I wanna say it is pure at heart. Now, there are a couple things I want to get into about this that I think I find very, I wanna say very nostalgia. And though the parody they did was so awesome in this anime or in the first episode.

What worked, and I think can only work in this anime just based on the type of care the creators went through. Was that this kind of subtle non, is that when Togo morphs, he does the the iconic, hand gestures and poses that you're so used to in the live action. And then when he finally gets the armor on, he poses for the after initial morph, morphing, and then explosions are up around him, which is very nostalgia of the live action power Rangers.

That, and then. With that, the, I assumed that it was only gonna be like within his own mind that this is occurring, that, no one else is seeing this, but no people around him, even the maid forgot what her name was, the maid that he actually yra. Finds this weird and does and can't, expl doesn't know where the explosions are coming from.

Does he have them already set up to go off? Did they just happen? It was just, she was confused by it. What? What's going on? And, his and also to that like his ER talks and she's confused by that as well. Like what? Like how, what's magic is he using that's allowing him to have a device that speaks and allow him to morph with that?

It's not, him morphing, within this episode happens maybe a few more times, but with that they carry that trope that the ma self learns that she can't stand behind him because she was assuming that she'd be protected when they encounter a fight. No, that once he morphs again and has his armor, the explosions just happen.

It's just part of the whole process of him morphing that she was actually blown away from the explosions and even tells him like, if you were going to morph, you shouldn't have done that while I was standing behind you. I did not know the explosion. Like those things will go off. I thought they were just, they were just, for awe.

But that's not the case. I think also what I find also worked is that they wasted nothing in this anime. Especially in the first episode that within the first episode we're getting the morphine, we're getting the weapons, we're getting even the megazord. I felt like this wasted no time for us to see his megazord, which because he is a red ranger, I assume that it was only gonna be like his sword.

But no, he was able to call forth a megazord of all the other rangers. And still operate it. I thought that was, fucking awesome. I was grinning because I'm like, there's no way this is happening. And yet everyone around him, the maj herself, just had no words and just, except the fact that this is happening now and there's no way to explain it.

And I thought that was pretty cool. This really played on a lot of nostalgia and I liked it. I and I think any fan of Power Ranger Super Centi is going to enjoy this anime. The first episode, they didn't withhold anything. It wasn't like a buildup, they gave the fans what they wanted.

And what's also interesting that the character all like Togo, feels like he's ripped from Power Rangers himself. He's, he has that bubbly personality. Everything's gonna be positive, you're gonna fight like the way he's written. Makes it feel like he, he was pulled from like he belongs in Angel Grove, which I thought was epic, and he wears his iconic colors.

There's another, there's a big trope in Power Rangers where the powers themselves wear their colors to, to distinguish that what power ranger they are, and this. Goes full force. Togo has a red hair, red jacket, red shirt, reder, like he has just dripped head to toe and red so there's no distinguished.

You can't distinguish that he's not a power ranger and he's not the Red Power Ranger or the Kai Ranger is what they call him in the, and I was ecstatic because that is actually one of the tropes. One of the tropes is you assume they have to be hidden, but in power Rangers, they're not.

They wear the colors that they are when they're not in their armor. So I thought that was pretty cool. I think another thing that also helps, make this work is that. For every isaka, there's always a guild where like the main the mc goes in, gets evaluated and he gets like a guild car, which that, tells him his stats.

And this was also done in the first episode as well, like determining what his stats were. And I kid you not, his stats read like a TV announcement. Like they were adjusted. He can kill a villain with one punch, the kaiso punch, and villains just explode. There's no reason for it. One punch and then they just blow up.

And it was interesting because, seeing her reaction to his skills being broken down, read like they were being pulled from the TV script of a power ranger, in development. And I found that very interesting 'cause she couldn't believe it. She goes, this makes no sense, this even possible.

There wasn't anything determined that they felt made up. Exact that's the best word to her being an outsider, encountering Togo and reading a stats. She thought this was a joke. Like these things did not make sense to her for someone who always valued, magic things that she could control.

And here Togo was like his. His capabilities just didn't make sense to her and the things he was able to do. And I found that very interesting and also very entertaining because he was essentially the chaos in the wrench. Like he wasn't going to conform, he wasn't gonna not use his abilities and pick up a sword.

He was still going to be himself in this world. Now I thought maybe a trope that they wouldn't utilize also was the punch. So when the villain is defeated and he falls down, explosions happen. And I assume okay, maybe because he is in a different world, that type of Thea.

Theatrics wouldn't play, and I was wrong because they encountered their first, big semi villain in the first episode and they defeat them with the mega sword, which I thought was awesome. But I. To to not be outdone, but to say we're going full force in this. Once the villain falls over as he was defeated, an explosion happens.

And I'm like, yes. Yes. So it wasn't just like they were gonna half-ass and it, they were diving fully into it and it was awesome. I've never been excited for an anime after, watching the first episode as I was for this one. Now let's, I'm, we gotta move on because I'm like fangirling over here, but let's move on to what didn't work now.

I couldn't see anything based on the first episode. That wouldn't work that didn't work out. Because a lot of stuff was just, it's essentially what it was. Just pulling a power Ranger from a show and just dropping him in this world, instead of him having to conform to their system, they have to adopt to him.

Now, I think what might not work is for those who do watch this. Who don't understand the cultural references and tropes behind Power Rangers and super Centi? I think this anime would be lost on someone who has no prior knowledge, coming in. I'm not saying that they would drop it after the first episode, but.

You will have to watch the second episode or continuing to watch it to get these references. It may be confusing, watching it, you're seeing that, Togo morphine and just being in the world. It's not like your typical isaka. So that's one thing I see that might not work for film C fans of anime who watch this, that if they don't get the references and the tropes, this might not be their couple.

Their cup of tea, and I understand that, I feel like this anime and how it was created just based on the first episode alone, had a lot of care and it looked like it was, I wanna say like a love letter. Two fans of Super Santi and Power Rangers just because of how well it was written.

It's not trying to be anything else. It's not trying to prove anything. And I do like that, but it also has that working against. Gets it as well that if you're not familiar with those properties and shows, then you might be confused when watching this and might not understand what's going on because just within the first episode, there's a lot of references.

A lot of references, I wanna say it's not heavy, but it is heavily references. All the time, and it's done subtly, you can catch 'em pretty quickly. So I think that probably is the biggest thing it has working against it that I see. That doesn't work if you're not a fan of, previous iterations of Power Rangers, ori, I think.

That may turn off a lot of fan, A lot of anime watchers, if they stumble onto this, watch it and be like, Hey, I don't know what's going on. This is weird. And drop it. So even though the fans will love it, any new person into maybe this general, I wanna say culture, but genre of anime for, I wanna say it's a very niche type of isaka that they're doing, and it's, very unique.

I don't think there's gonna be one like this again, this is very unique. And with all the nostalgia references and, tropes and essentially just, punching you in your childhood gut. It also has that working against it because a lot of people who may not grow up with those type of shows.

So I feel that is what. May not work for it. Going forward and not saying it's a bad thing, but this anime does feel like it might be a double-edged sword for some 'cause it's entering a category niche. Enemy of isaka that's like heavily, saturated with, overpowered MCs, situations, fan service, and there're just a lot of one-offs.

And so the competition for this one is very niche, so it has that working against it. And even though it shouldn't, it's one of those things where. I'll repeat this again. If you don't know these references, it might be hard to watch and keep up with the anime. Moving on, what did I rate this, the anime after the first episode?

So far I wanna give this a I. Four out of five stars. It's not perfect, but it's worth watching if you're into fantasy and sci-fi. Now, this is based off just the first episode. Now. I'll probably continue watching it. I'm gonna put on my watch list. But first episode alone, just how well it started. I gave it a four L five.

Now we're gonna move on to our next section where I read reviews from users on my anime list and see if, everyone's all in agreement on this anime or, or decide, blah blah, deciding if they should just, leave it alone or if they recommend it. So let's get to it. I think I've picked about three.

And so how this will go is that I'll read, their username and then read the descriptions of what they gave and also the rating for the anime itself. All right, so first review coming up. User odd eyes 5 88 says, if you're an enjoyer of Toku satsu, you will love this show. It pokes fun at the tropes of standard Toku kasu, but never in a way that's derogatory.

It is filled with absolute love and adoration for the genre as a whole, and it leans fully into the obser absurdity of it all usually. Akai follows a protagonist adapting to their new world. But if anything, it's the opposite here as fantasy world is literally a force to adopt to the presence of these other worldly elements.

Instead, at the same time, it's not just a OneNote comedy of red pulling, out some crazy ability that baffles. They gave it their re, they gave it a recommendation, and I have to agree with them, as I mentioned earlier, that I agree with this user's sentiment and also what they gave it as a review.

They would recommend this. Now user review number two is from user. Cable Deion. If you love Super Santi Common Rider or even Power Rangers, then Santi, red Isaka is a dream come true. This isn't it exactly. Some edgy, the boys' version of Santi like Go-Go loser Ranger slash. This anime is brilliant.

Blend the heroic spirit of a classic Tai with classic tropes of Akai world that you'll, that we all know, that we all know by now.

Should be another boring Akai slop of the season ends up being a refreshing take on both genres. We're seeing the Saturday morning cartoon energy with this kind of over the top justice that makes Sai and they rated it a recommended, and I again, after agree with them because when you watch this. You are gonna get that Saturday morning cartoon feeling and that nostalgia of, essentially creators who care for a genre that's only up until now existed in live action.

Common writer was a, is a huge one. I still think goes on today. That carries on that torch and I have to agree we. Seeing that love and care in an anime towards the, I wanna say the content, the source material that they're pulling from is, epic. And it just means, it just goes to show you how much they care.

Now our final review is from seven Duram, they say. The Issa Kai genre runs on the idea of an ordinary person who is sent to an extraordinary world far beyond their animation, their imagination, and in terms of the current anime, they become someone with greater power than who they were before. And it's a cookie cutter story that gets released every season, but not for Togo, not for the Red Ranger who becomes an adventurer in another world.

They gave it a. So they gave it a recommended, and I have to agree again, these were we'll go back. These were views from users on my anime list, and I have to agree with them and I feel like they're fans of this type of, I wanna say new genre of Isaka, where like they don't play into the tropes of the isaka and I'm loving it.

And my sentiments also match theirs. This was like a breath of fresh air. For someone who watches anime and has seen a lot of Issa Kai slop, coming year, season after season. There's so many out there and this is just a refreshing take on it that. Essentially doesn't, follow up with the isaka tropes.

It reminds me of the other anime that will, may end up doing a review of is jobless reincarnation. That is another I've heard that. Great reviews that doesn't follow the asy Chi tropes, which. Will probably be our another anime that we've reviewed down the line. Now the general consensus on anime list is positive.

Most are praising the anime review after review. I seen had, you know nothing but praise some also. Offered some criticism, but it's been mainly love, for this new take on Power Rangers and a challenging isaka because, again, many year after year, it's just a lot of anime under the Isai banner just, come full force and a lot of 'em are just.

Use the term crap. They're cannon fodder essentially. And so it's nice to know that I don't, I'm not alone in feeling it, with the same opinion. There's others on anime list who feel, who agree with me that this was something new and it's, it should be cherished. So next we're gonna be final thoughts.

So overall, the first episode of the Re Ranger becomes an adventure in another world. Again, gave it four to five stars. I think this is a watch, based on the first episode. It nailed everything that I need to continue watching. I feel like anyone who's a fan is going to enjoy this anime and this genre of, sci-fi fantasy.

And it's gonna be, I deem it, I'm going to recommend this to those who are on the fence of new anime to watch. I think you should take a chance on this and be thoroughly entertained. Oh, I was, and the first episode, did not pull any punches. They went full force. And that's what I like, for an anime serious and not, play it safe, just risk it all.

And this anime did that, and again, I'm gonna say I recommend this. This is a watch for me. I'm gonna add it onto my watch list to continue watching this series to see, how good it gets for the overall season. And I'm excited, and I think you guys should also add this on your watch list as well.

All right.
