I like to welcome our new and current listeners into today's episode.

Diving into X-Men 97: Overview and Excitement

Well, we'll be discussing and reviewing X-Men 97. Series on Disney. Plus the show itself is 10 episodes long. some updates is that it got green-lit for season two. So I'm excited. and I'm sure everyone else is excited as well as the show itself was awesome.

X-Men 97: Background and Synopsis

A little bit of a background on the show is that. X-Men 97 does revisit the iconic era of the 1990s And are challenged, like never before they're forced to face. Dangerous and expected. New future. The creators of the show or,

If I mispronounce the name. Is Bo DMIO. Stanley and Jack Kirby.  Now the overall synopsis.  Of the series as a whole is.

The show kind of like picks up. Right after the original series. So right after professor X's death. The accident. I have to, you know, Continue his legacy and creating a world where humans are accepted. By mutans. And how they have to deal with the aftermath of professor X's death and just.  Everyone. Involved in that, you know, are they going to, stay stagnant in their ways? Or choose to become better. You know, ethic stepping the mutants.

Now.

Nostalgia and Expectations for X-Men 97

This overall was very interesting, because. When I originally watched the show. back when I was a kid.  The.  They left off a cliff hanger. Like, you know, they had the X-Men gathered around professor X and then it ended. It was the most abrupt cliffhanger. Possible. For a Saturday morning cartoon. as a kid growing up, hearing that we were going to get a sequel to the X-Men.  was not only,   Amazing, but also just kind of left. People wondering where the show was going to pick up. What the story was going to be about and would, you know, Which still hold true to that assets of the X men. You know what brought people together to watch in the first place,   X-Men. The animated series. had a banger intro. That intro music was just like, the minute you went off, you knew it was the X-Men song.

The ax man was playing.   Those were like nostalgia to the ears.  With all things being brought back, those were. You know, one of my concerns among with anyone else was that.  How was this going to be? Brought back and updated. Four. Not only. A new audience. Who's probably hasn't watched their original, but will.  The core and the essence of the show. still be present for those who watched the original tetanus stodgy.  factor.  And that's one thing.  That seeing the show now.  I can say they didn't disappoint. I felt like the show itself.  Hit. On all marks.

Magneto's Role and Character Growth

Transitioning into some. Big things here that watching the series, I want to touch upon.  There are three main.  Themes here on the overall. Series that I feel like.  I want to focus on one here   At the beginning. Of the series we are. Told that Magneto inherits the school. I know for those who grew up, Magneto is antagonists. Of essentially. the bad guy.   To the ax man for the majority of the series. So him inheriting the ax man. when the school.  robbed a lot of people the wrong way.  Because he's very erotically, radicalized and his mythology and how he views the world. He doesn't view.

The world and shades of gray, it's always black and white. Because of his upbringing, he knows. People to be. Just bad.  Because history dictates. That.

They're only.  Have one nature. If they feel threatened. They're not going to evolve. They're always going to go after those who, you know,

Make them feel threatened, make them feel less than make them who might be different. And so with that mindset, he knows.  Also being, growing up. Jew Jewish and living through. You know that time. Of an internment camps himself. He just has that mindset. Of just, you know, the worst of humanity.

Being at the core. Rub people the wrong way, because here's this person who has, I was going to have all these resources. You know, B.  In charge of the school.  And knowing his intentions, knowing his background, she has had.  Free reign in the school.   And knowing what type of person he is.

And I felt like.  This was a pivotal point. As a character growth. For not only. They X men themselves. Cause.  They have to put their bias. side, because they've all have memories of fighting Magneto and what his intentions are. And the same with Magneto.  Putting his bias aside and trying to live his life in the dream. Of what professor Xavier wanted.  Which is coexistence. Acceptance for all human, all mankind. Or mute unkind.  My apologies.  And so it's this whole kind of growing pains between these two different fashions. Of mutans. Magneto having to like.  I essentially. Change who he is.

In order to.  You essentially evolve.

And become a better version. Of himself.  Not just to the ax man, but to.  Everyone around.  Because his friend is dead.  He believes it truly is. Professor X is dead. And so he's the only one who can bring a professor axes.  Ideology and dream to fruition.  And so. He's essentially, On. Omega level Mulan. And he's trying to, right.

The wrongs. Of what he did in the past. And so when you have that, There's   A lot of situations where, people are taken back because.  They expect him to do the wrong thing, because that is. His history. Of. violence.

Now.

The Attack on Genosha

The second.  Main topic or main theme here.  That I want to also address.  Is.  The attack of

 The attack of

Is very significant because for all. Who've watched the original, series and. And also read the comments. Genoa is like, you know, The axes, mans, safe Haven. It's their piece of land there.   Their place where they can go and be free without prosecution. They have their own little form of government. And they don't have to worry about, you know, human laws. disrupting them and being prosecuted.  Now.

And the reason why. You know, It is important because.

Jen Nosha.

Is seen as like, essentially.

What's what I'm looking for is actually.

A new power structure.

And is viewed as a threat by.  Other people.

Dough.  Jen  is a. Is  essentially a home or safe Haven for mutans to the outside world.  It is seen as a, a. A military power because essentially the mutism themselves are like weapons of mass destruction. Even though they want peace.

And then we'll repeat that one more time.

Did you Nosha, I've seen as a. Is a.  A threat.

Even though this is the.  The citizens there. Their own no form of government and politics.

Don't want to be harassed. Don't want anything to do. They just want to live their lives.  Normally unencumbered.

They just want to be left alone.

The attack on Genoa is unique because it feels personal.

When you watch the episode. you see that it happens because there are key indicators.   Not going to spoil it for those who haven't lost yet, but there are key indicators in this moment, Magneto is getting ready to establish, his so-called.  King and queen. He has consort with rogue and essentially start building out their form of government for Kenosha and get things established.

And then they have this gala. And then right before, you know, things can settle. They are attacked. Bye. A.  Deformed. Super. Play. We'll call it some kind of. put together Sentinel.

I can't even say it's like essentially a. Mutation.  Put together Sentinel. They have not seen. Before.  And it is essentially. Using a beam.  that's able to nullify and kill mutans.

So I had like three heads.

And this angers, I essentially the Sentinel. Themselves are the humans is.  The humans.  Essentially what then?  So seeing that there's no intake, there's like no indication. There's no, essentially. Like they can't deny that this is a human assault on the X-Men. So when that happens, when you see it, you're like, you know, they themselves can't live in peace.

They can't have anything themselves.  And, and so when you see that you see all the destruction that happens. You know,

Then everyone's giving their final efforts to save as many people as possible. It just. Doesn't seem.  To do anything. And then the last ditch effort. That we see here is that, gambit.  with his, kinetic energy. is able to.  lay his hands. On the Sentinel and,   Blow it up, but not before him being stabbed.

But prior to that, We get an also an iconic scene of Magneto protecting people. And then him getting a flashback of like,  No. As a time as him as being a kid.  And so.

Aye. Aye. This is   Also another significant, Major theme is that.

The X men themselves.  Having to evolve.

And remove their bias, but also dealing with tragedy. At the hands. Of humans. When they themselves.  Don't want to be bothered. With all they want is acceptance.

And then the other analysis. The third and final analysis I have.

Introducing Bastion: The New Threat

Is that what kind of like ties the whole series? Together is that we're introduced. Two.  A.  A new type of Sentinel. The character's name is bastion. And he's like this. Either, essentially a meal in,   He's like a nano bot mute when he's.

Ben and his mother or his father was infected from, by.  You know,  Nimrod who was from the future. In fact, his dad. You know, then. Because mom got pregnant with Tim, so he can now control and sense all technology. So he's essentially a Mulan. Of sorts, but technology Melian.

And he hates me.

So.  His whole purpose. And the world is to eradicate the meal ends on an accelerated level by turning. Humans into a nano version, satin or Sentinel primes.

And what this, kind of reminds me of the reason why I bring this up. Bastions idea and I bring it up. Is that it reminds me of a, of an old adage. We're like,  You know, the animals in the tree. We're no, the Nazis were coming for, you know, Pacific they'll call out and say, we're looking for. You know, the specific, you know, a, B and C and they'll come and snatch. And then they'll come and like every time no one spoke up, no one's spoken up.

And then when you know it was your turn, no one was Andrew. Speak up for you. It was kind of like that. So essentially.

Bastions whole idea is that he's radicalizing.  People into Sentinel primes without them knowing.

But by that time, it's too late. He's turning their own fears. Of being.

 Outnumbered.

Outdated and replaced.

It's kind of reminiscent of what was currently going on. In our era and our society where the replacement theory.  And it was.  The undertones there that, huh? That's very familiar.  But yes, it's essentially the concepts and the ideas that Dasha was spooked was like, you know, saying we're right on the nose. These are individuals who feel that they have no stake in the game. We're mutans are the, you know, come to take their jobs.

They can't compete with someone. Who's a teleporter who can do things faster, someone who's stronger than they are. And they go on to online and take out their frustration. They feel like the world is leaving them behind.  And so then idea. That he's there to like, Bring the man shot. Shelter them give them a new sense of purpose. Then not knowing. That they're essentially their whole identity and being is just being, you know, destroyed.  And they're becoming just tools and.  Tools for this.

Man's.

Vendetta.  Against meet Linds in general.  Because it's not his mission or his idea. It's someone else's. He himself has to tool.   That's.  Being used from the future.

And so this whole thing plays out. And the reason why I mentioned those is that.

Major Themes and Key Events

That's kind of the course of an entire series that I feel like these are the major themes that we have Magneto. You know, becoming the owner of the school.   The attack on Genoa.  And then there were Bashin as the big reveal as a new Sentinel.

Now.  My personal opinion.

Character Highlights and Team Dynamics

what I like about the show overall? Is that. They do something very different. And what I mean by that is that. Every character got a moment to shine and it was like almost playing. and X-Men and video game were. We got to see.  the X-Men characters do combination attacks. That was, displayed early on.

And the first episode we got to see, Wolverine and gambit do a combination tag followed by morph as well. Wolverine took out his claws and then gambit. which allowed him to have, an approved slicing attack. Like. connect bomb, slice, which was actually really cool.

And we got to see that, you know, I thought that Dallas is just going to be like a one-off, you know, one episode that'd be done. That was actually. You know, on displayed throughout.  The series on each episode, we got to see different characters, do combinations with each other, which also. Cements the fact that They're a team they have to work together. And do different attacks together.

So it made it much more. You know, Valid at worthy X men. We're a team we're working together. You know, things like that were the mutans and it just a lot of callbacks to like video games in, you know, which made me smile.  But also.  Got to see you. You know, For those who are like,  Haters or. ViaSat club. You know was a week in the.  Previous series.  This is why we got to see. Why Cyclops was the leader. Of the X-Men it wasn't Wolverine.

It's psych clogs. Psych clubs is the leader. Of the X-Men and he's a leader for a reason. Because.

Episode After episode. He's proved kind of time after time. That he can get the job done.

 No matter what the situation.

Calculated.  And think of the team. And it was nice that he got moments to display that even though they may be small. This is why he's, you know,  The leader of the X-Men.

Which was nice because.  You don't get to see that he got like very iconic moments to shine. A lot more than I expected, which was awesome.

Now.

Voice Actor Performances

Some notable performances.  I feel like are going to go to the voice actors. So we have a.  professor asks, who was voiced by Ross. Mark quid Wolverine.  Voice by.  Cow Dodd Magneto voice by Matthew Watterson and psych cops. Voiced by Ray. Chase.  these were the ones that stood out the most because it felt like we got to know the characters a bit.  Now.

Updated Art Style and Animation

Certain elements of the show is that the, our style did change.

So if you watch their original, and try to compare the two, they did update the art style of the series. they gave it more.   Kind of like an anime slash Archer feel to it. Adonai is still kept the X-Men aesthetic. But it felt. Like anime. Which.    I don't mind.

I like it. I like the updated art style. And, the transition. Like everything seems smooth, clean. I mean, I'm all for, I'm glad that the ax man. You know,  If they were to do like any animated series to update, I'm glad the X-Men. Was the first one because we're still waiting on. The Axman live action from Marvel. And I'm glad that this was the like, Hey legs. Let us re-introduce you to the mutants. Type of thing, and I'm glad that. The immune has got some love.

so if anything, I'm excited. For this. And so the, our style, the animation. Like again, It was smooth. We got to see things actually. that I don't think was in their original.   One, The performance or I think.  One thing I thought was pretty cool was.

Wolverine stabs one. Oh, by Sentinel prime.  And at the same time Nightcrawler has grabbed that same Sentinel prime person and is teleporting.  And while that happens, normally in like in a scene, they would probably pan out. No, we actually got to see Wolverine being pooled through the,   Night, crawlers. Teleportation by being teleported.  And it was actually pretty cool.

Like, you know how he feels like someone being teleported along with Nightcrawler.  So awesome. I don't think they've ever done something like that. I mean, they've done. And we're like, you know,  Hi, Carlos teleport. And you got to see where the dimension he title ports through, but like real time where, you know how fast he's going.

I thought it was pretty awesome. That they did that. And it's things like that. subtle things.  That they didn't need to do, but they did anyways. That makes X-Men 97.  Really. Good of a series and kind of Elevate.  The show.  they didn't have to do that. They could just, you  Cut away.

They could have done anything else. But the fact that there. Showing you certain aspects to be like, Hey, there's this.  You know, to keep you intrigued. I love it.

Now.  Overall.

The show itself. You know, talking about. The main points of.  Magnolia school, the attack on Kenosha and bastion.

And everything I mentioned so far.

Memorable Moments and Favorite Scenes

I think my, favorite moments here would probably be of the series would be.

Is when Magneto is actually, he's been captured by Bashan. And he's let go. And he goes to the north pole. And he says enough, but during this time there's a certain montage that's happening in the background.

Just describing about how we, should have listened. To Magneto when he was, you know, the person that we show followed that human behavior is always just going to go back to its true nature. People can evolve. And the only person who really understood that, what is Magneto?

Cause he was right.

And it shows him at the north pole.  Doing his.  Omega level.   Powers where he essentially destroys the magnetic field around the earth. And does an EMP destroying everything.

That I believe. With probably my favorite scene. Because we all know that. Magneto is an omega level mutant, but. In the series we've seen them. Do you know some cool shit? But they never put it on like a planetary scale and here he was displaying something of planetary.  Scale was that he just destroyed the magnetic field of the earth.

And then the planet was just going to only have 12 hours.  To exist.

Imagine that.  12 hours to exist and then they're done.

So.  That was why that moment stood out because that whole time.  If you think about it. All the stuff that Magneto did prior was just, simple things.

Low level crimes.  If you, tried to imagine, you know, Put it on the scale of how serious, things were, he could have done this at any moment in the original series.   And that's the scary part. Because when you watch this moment, In this series. You realize.  He could have done that.  At any time he wanted. There was no one that could have stopped him.

Yeah, there was no one that could have stopped him.

He could just flown up there.  In the middle of the night. And done that and that'd be it.

And yet.  Everyone kept pressing him. Everyone kept pressing the mutans and he just kept telling him. You know, you.  I'm not the person to fuck with.

And the humans kept doing it. They're like, well, we have, we're better than you. And he's like, nah.  I let me, let me just let you know right now I could do this at any moment, but I choose not to. So all this time he had self-restraint.

So that's why I think that was my favorite moment. Is when he did that, because it made me realize how big of a threat. Magneto was.  The entire time.  And this series. And the original.  Because.  He could have done that.  At any moment.

So all the things he'd done prior would just. We're just chump change. It was meaningless. Because if he had this in his bag the whole time,  He could have done it at any moment.  The only reason why he chose not to is because of Charles Xavier.

And so that's why that's one of my favorite moments of the series. Because it just, it just shows. It goes to show you how.

The gravity of the situation. Like how far mag needle himself. You know, his restraint is before he can be pushed.  And it kind of also.  Shows like how.  Well, ran other character and how much character development he is and how much he's evolved as a character. Because it's actually is not an anti-hero. He's just someone who wants to do what's right for his people.  And he's given humans so many chances.

to correct themselves and they just keep failing every time.

Final Thoughts and Recommendations

my final thoughts on the show.

I loved it. again, it's a nice return to form for the ax man. 97.

Again,   When it was first announced, I thought it was going to be bad.  I like to keep my expectations low for any series. So that's why I don't get too hyped up. again, there was a lot of negative things people were saying before the show was coming out. And after watching it.  Those were cleared up and it was just like my inner child. was overjoyed. for the show.  And I just, I loved it.

I was like watching. It's like going back to Saturday morning cartoons all over again. Cause when that. Theme music hit. I just got all excited all over again. And so I couldn't wait to watch it. You know, each episode.  I feel like this is binge-worthy, you know, You can choose to take, you know, watch one episode. at a time as he like me personally, I wait until all of them were all out and then I just binged watched it. for me, it's easier that way.

I will give this show a. 10 actually a 910.  A nine on a 10. Just because season two. Is coming out.

Actually, Yeah. I'll change. I'll give it an eight out of 10.  Cause I'm excited for season two and seeing how season one just ended.  And I know. the creator. Had wrote.  The season two. And, you know, I'm excited for that, but I don't know if we're going to get the same type of action for season three, if they all announce that. Once season two was already out. So I have high hope.  Correction.  I'm going to keep my expectations low for season two, but overall Susan one gets an eight out of 10.

From me.  And seeing how everyone has that has watched the show.  Is kind of in the same camp. They're giving a, at a 10, some are giving a 10. So I'm giving a 9 79. You know, a 90% out of a hundred. So the show is good,

Now I do recommend you watch it.

if you are a fan of the show, also watch the watch. And if you're not a fan. Watch the show anyways. It's a good.  Animated cartoon.  It does have undertones in there about real life, which any show kind of pulls from. And I felt like it's a good, very entertaining. Now if you're not a fan of it, I. Think he should still watch it. I recommend it to anyone. Who hasn't watched it. it is on Disney plus.

So you may have to like,  Disney plus subscription, but get a trial. Sign up for a trial, watch it. And then if you want. You know, you can end your subscription. but I do say.  Watch the show. I do recommend it.
